The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) confirmed the amended Energy Sector Levies Act, 2025 (Act 1141) will take effect on July 16, ending a one-month suspension initially imposed for global fuel market assessments.

Acting Commissioner-General Anthony Akwasi Sarpong stated the revised levies are a “critical revenue measure” designed to bolster energy infrastructure financing and enhance economic stability.

The GRA has updated the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) to automate the new levy calculations. All customs declarations filed on or after July 16 will automatically reflect the adjusted charges.

Importers, fuel distributors, and customs agents are mandated to ensure full compliance with the revised structure.

No specific levy rate adjustments were disclosed, though the move aligns with Ghana’s broader fiscal strategy under its IMF program.

The suspension since June provided stakeholders time to align operations with the changes amid volatile global oil prices.
